South Cumbria Online Event to Tackle Menopause-Related Pain
An insightful online event is being organized by the support group Menopause Matters to provide a platform for women dealing with menopause and related pain issues in South Cumbria. The session coincides with World Menopause Day, observed annually to raise awareness about menopause and its impacts. This year’s discussions will focus especially on ‘Chronic Pain At Midlife’.
A Platform for Sharing and Understanding
The facilitator of the support group, Leigh Williams, emphasizes the event’s aim to foster open discussions regarding the multitude of issues faced by women during menopause. Taking place from 19:00 to 20:00 BST, the free virtual gathering will facilitate a dialogue that moves beyond a typical webinar structure, offering an informal conversational setting.
A diverse group of panelists, including general practitioners and health professionals, will join the conversation to provide different insights and support. Importantly, women with first-hand experience of managing persistent pain will also share their stories, creating a holistic view of menopause’s impact on daily life.
Beyond Traditional Discussions
Williams, who became involved in facilitating these meetings due to her own struggles with perimenopause and ongoing pain, is keen to highlight the importance of such communal discussions. “The issues connected with menopause can quickly broaden into topics like stress, mental health, and neurodiversity,” she explains, emphasizing the necessity of diverse perspectives in enriching the conversation.
Through these support meetings, women have found solace and understanding, which have been critical in recognizing that their experiences do not exist in isolation. Menopause Matters extends its support beyond virtual realms through regular monthly gatherings in Barrow-in-Furness, where women can meet and discuss in a relaxed, friendly environment.
Addressing a Widespread Issue
The International Menopause Society reveals that a significant percentage of women experience pain during perimenopause, often manifesting as joint or muscle aches akin to conditions like fibromyalgia. This high prevalence accentuates the necessity of addressing menopause openly and thoroughly in order to enhance the quality of life for those affected.
Williams hopes that the event will not only offer an outlet for women to express their concerns but also promote a broader dialogue about health and wellbeing during menopause. By facilitating discussions that acknowledge both the challenges and potential strategies for managing menopause-related issues, Menopause Matters aims to empower women to thrive rather than merely survive during these years.
Those interested in participating in this enlightening online forum can reserve their spot through the event’s booking page, ensuring a supportive space where their voices can be heard.
