Military Casualties from Operation Sindoor Officially Acknowledged
In a significant step towards honoring the sacrifice of its armed forces, the Indian government officially announced military casualties from Operation Sindoor on Friday, June 26, 2026. This disclosure marks the first time the names of personnel who lost their lives during the cross-border operation in May 2025 have been made public.
The names of these brave individuals have been added to the Roll of Honour on the National War Memorial website, providing a solemn confirmation of their sacrifice. The personnel who laid down their lives during this operation are:
- Subedar Major Pawan Kumar of Headquarters 10 Infantry Brigade
- Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Vir Chakra, of 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry
- Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of 5 Field Regiment
- Agniveer Mood Muralinaik of 851 Light Regiment
- Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh of 237 Field Workshop Company
- Sergeant Surendra Kumar, Vayu Medal, of 39 Wing
These names will also be inscribed on the Tyag Chakra (Circle of Sacrifice) at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, a tribute to their valor and commitment to the nation.
Operation Sindoor was initiated in the early hours of May 7, 2025, as a direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred on April 22, resulting in the tragic loss of 26 civilian lives, mostly tourists. In a decisive military response, the Indian Armed Forces executed precision strikes on nine terror-related sites located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operations specifically targeted infrastructure linked to terrorist organizations including Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Following these military actions, India and Pakistan reached an agreement to cease hostilities on May 10 after discussions between the Directors General of Military Operations of both nations.
