Rob Scheer’s Comfort Cases Transforms Foster Care Experience
Transforming Foster Care: The Story of Comfort Cases
In 2013, Rob Scheer embarked on a mission to change the foster care system by establishing Comfort Cases. Having spent his childhood in foster care, he vividly recalls the humiliation of using trash bags to carry his belongings. This poignant memory sparked his desire to provide foster children with dignity and hope through sturdy backpacks filled with essentials.
The charity, which began its journey at Scheer’s dining room table, has since distributed more than 300,000 backpacks. Each backpack is carefully packed with items that bring comfort and a sense of belonging to children transitioning through foster care. These include personal hygiene products, pajamas, books, and even toys.
A Personal Journey Inspires a Movement
Scheer’s personal experience in the foster care system gave him firsthand insight into the challenges faced by these children. As an adult, he became motivated to ensure no other child had to suffer the indignity he experienced. This led him to transform his vision into a reality, creating a foundation that now touches the lives of thousands across the United States.
The initiative has grown significantly, benefiting from both local support and national partnerships. Volunteers and donors from around the country have joined forces with Comfort Cases, spreading the charity’s reach and impact.
Empowering Children and Building Confidence
More than just providing physical necessities, Comfort Cases aims to imbue foster children with a sense of self-worth and identity. By handing them something as simple as a backpack, the organization hopes to convey that these young individuals are worthy of care and respect.
As the charity continues to expand, it sets an inspiring example of how compassionate actions can lead to substantial change. Comfort Cases demonstrates the power of community-driven efforts to uplift vulnerable groups and provides a roadmap for similar initiatives around the globe.
