India Launches Operation Amistad to Aid Earthquake-Stricken Venezuela
As part of ‘Operation Amistad’, India has initiated a humanitarian mission directed at assisting Venezuela following the recent devastating earthquakes in the region. On Friday, two C-17 Globemaster aircraft from the Indian Air Force (IAF) departed, equipped with vital relief supplies and accompanied by a rescue team of 41 members.
The Ministry of External Affairs of India expressed solidarity, stating,
“India stands shoulder to shoulder with the government and the people of Venezuela during this difficult period.”
This operation aims to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to those affected by the disaster.

Operation Amistad has been launched in response to the substantial loss of life and widespread destruction caused by the earthquakes, which registered magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 on June 24, 2026. These quakes are among the most severe to impact Venezuela in over a century.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the urgency of the situation in a social media post, stating,
“Operation Amistad underway! Two @IAF_MCC C17s took-off today for Venezuela with urgent assistance to support their post-earthquake relief efforts.”
The aid package includes an Indian Army Field Hospital unit, over 35 tons of various relief supplies, and a supply of essential medicines and medical equipment, including two portable BHISHM hospitals.

The 41-member rescue team is composed of skilled rescue personnel and medical professionals, specifically tasked with supporting search and rescue operations, as well as providing emergency medical care and relief efforts in the hardest hit areas. Following the earthquakes, the acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, reported a staggering death toll of 920, with approximately 3,360 individuals injured.
