NEW DELHI: As indications grow regarding an impending reshuffle in the Union Cabinet, it appears that the BJP’s organizational changes may coincide with these governmental adjustments. Party president Nitin Nabin is reportedly finalizing his team of office-bearers.
BJP insiders had previously suggested that the organizational restructuring could be completed by the end of the month, with these changes likely interconnected with a potential reshuffle within the central ministry. Speculation intensified on Thursday following Nabin’s meetings with several ministers of state.
Organizational Changes and Focus on Youth
Many in party circles believe that the organizational reshuffle will occur shortly after the announcement of the Uttar Pradesh unit’s office-bearers, which took place on Thursday. The significant overhaul of the UP team, emphasizing younger faces and a broad representation of OBC castes, is seen as a strategic response to the Samajwadi Party’s PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpasankhyak) pitch in the state. This development has sparked theories that a similar approach may be mirrored in the BJP’s national team, aiming to strengthen the party’s connection with key caste demographics along with an emphasis on youth and women.
Speculations and Government Dynamics
Prime Minister Modi is known for keeping government reshuffles discreet until the last moment. Thus, while there is a prevailing silence surrounding this matter, the reassignment of some ministers to organizational roles and the resignation of Minister George Kurian, whose Rajya Sabha membership was not renewed, have fueled expectations for the reshuffle. This comes as the government enters its third year without any significant changes.
Moreover, the defection of 20 rebel TMC MPs to the NDA camp and six MPs from the Shiv Sena (UBT) joining the faction led by Eknath Shinde have provided further credence to the likelihood of a reshuffle. However, it is important to note that this may only occur after LS Speaker Om Birla makes a decision regarding the MPs’ transitions, as their original parties have termed these moves illegal.
