The island of Jersey is gearing up to embark on an extensive survey targeting the younger generation, focusing on a wide range of issues including health, school experiences, and evolving tech usage. Scheduled from October 5th to 16th, the survey extends its reach to students from Year 4 to Year 12. This initiative, driven by Statistics Jersey, aims to gather vital data without compromising the privacy of the participants, as it promises anonymity and ease through its online format.
New Focus Areas: Digital and Social Media
For the first time, questions will delve into emerging domains such as social media apps and the increasingly relevant field of generative AI. Such inclusions highlight the evolving landscape that today’s youth are navigating. Chief Statistician Ian Cope emphasized the significance of these insights for shaping future strategies and policies. By tailoring questions directly with student input, the survey aims to address the most pressing issues impacting their everyday lives.

A final compilation of the findings, along with a version accessible to children, is anticipated by Spring 2027. This will provide a strategic basis for future planning and a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Jersey’s younger residents.
