Jyoti Waghmare Files Complaint Against Sanjay Raut with NCW Over Abusive Language
NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Jyoti Waghmare has lodged a formal complaint with the National Commission for Women (NCW) against fellow Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut. The complaint alleges that Raut has repeatedly engaged in abusive language, obscene profanity, and publicly insulted women representatives.
In her complaint, sent via email to the NCW chairperson in New Delhi, Waghmare sought the immediate registration of a criminal case against Raut. She claims that his statements and conduct over the last four years warrant legal action.
Waghmare took to X to share her concerns, stating, “Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Jyoti Waghmare has today filed an official complaint with the National Commission for Women (NCW) against the continuous abusive language, obscene profanity, and public insult of women representatives by MP from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg Sanjay Raut.”
In her complaint, Waghmare has emphasized that Raut’s remarks have significantly harmed Maharashtra’s political culture. She expressed a need for stringent measures from the women’s panel, urging them to take note of the issue and ensure criminal proceedings against Raut. As reported by ANI, she mentioned in her email, “Taking serious note of Sanjay Raut’s controversial statements and conduct over the past four years, MP Jyoti Waghmare has made a strong demand in her email complaint sent to the NCW’s head office in New Delhi for immediate registration of a criminal case against him.”
Waghmare further highlighted the detrimental impact of Raut’s alleged remarks on the state’s political discourse, advocating for a return to Maharashtra’s rich tradition of cultured and ideological politics, which she feels is being compromised.
This complaint comes on the heels of a significant political shift as six Shiv Sena (UBT) Lok Sabha MPs recently joined the faction led by Eknath Shinde, a move characterized as “Operation Tiger” by the ruling group.
The backdrop of this complaint includes a series of controversial statements made by Raut amidst the ongoing turmoil within Shiv Sena (UBT). He faced backlash after using inappropriate language while addressing rebel MPs during a press conference last week. In defense of his remarks, Raut contended that his language reflected common Marathi expressions, asserting that he is well aware of the appropriate language to use in different contexts.
In his response to the criticism, Raut asserted, “No abusive language. This is how it is used in Marathi. This is how it is used in Maharashtra. This is our regular language. The language that should be used, should be used. And when and which language should be used, I know. I am the editor of the Saamna. I know the language.”
He also stated, “If someone is dishonest, what will you do with him? You will punish him. If someone is corrupt, he takes 15 crore rupees and leaves the party, what will you do with him? Will you punish him? Tell me.”
In the aftermath of the recent defections, Raut stirred controversy yet again by labeling the departing MPs as “traitors” and remarking that Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had “given birth to six gaddars (traitors)” and likened the situation to needing a “Cesarean surgery.”
