K. Bhagyaraj, a celebrated Tamil filmmaker known for his diverse roles as an actor, producer, and composer, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the age of 73 due to a heart attack suffered at Apollo Hospital.
According to sources, Bhagyaraj experienced a severe heart attack and was promptly taken to Apollo Hospital. Despite attempts to resuscitate him, those efforts unfortunately did not succeed.
Earlier this year, he commemorated 50 years in the film industry, marking his 73rd birthday with significant milestones.
Bhagyaraj leaves behind his wife, Poornima Bhagyaraj, along with their children, actor Shanthanu and Saranya Bhagyaraj.
The filmmaker embarked on his cinematic journey as an assistant director under the guidance of the esteemed Tamil director Bharathiraja, who also passed away earlier this month. Bhagyaraj’s first collaborative project with Bharathiraja was the 1977 film 16 Vayathinile.
