BBC Stars Push Sofa 80 Miles for Children in Need Challenge
In an inspiring act to support BBC Children in Need, Amy Garcia, a presenter for BBC Look North, and Lindsey Burrow, are embarking on a unique fundraising challenge. They will push the iconic red sofa from the Look North studio across an impressive 80 miles in Yorkshire, demonstrating their commitment to helping children in need.
A Unique Fundraiser
The red sofa push is set to unfold over five days, starting from Ripon and ending in Wakefield. The journey kicks off on November 9 and will see the duo covering 12 to 20 miles per day, passing through notable areas like South Yorkshire. Not only is this event a physical and logistical challenge, but it also profoundly serves the charitable cause they hold close to their hearts.
The Journey
With strategic stops at various Children in Need-funded projects, Amy and Lindsey aim to shine a spotlight on the ongoing support for children and young people across the region. Their route includes key locations in Yorkshire and a significant climb over the renowned Holme Moss.
Lindsey Burrow: A Personal Commitment
Lindsey Burrow’s motivation for this daunting task is rooted in her personal experiences. Having fundraised previously through marathon running in honor of her late husband, rugby league legend Rob Burrow, she understands the power of community spirit and charity. Lindsey expressed anticipations of this challenge being particularly strenuous after a trial push revealed the difficulty of maneuvering the hefty sofa.
A Familiar Task for Amy Garcia
For Amy Garcia, sofa pushes are becoming a notable tradition. In 2018, she joined forces with fellow presenters for the Big 50 Sofa Challenge, an initiative that successfully amassed almost £200,000 for Sport Relief. Despite noting the current sofa’s heavier weight compared to previous years’, Amy embraces the challenge as another exceptional opportunity to engage with fans and support communities.
Redefining Charity Challenges
The latest challenge builds upon Amy and Lindsey’s prior endeavor in 2025, where they completed a 30-mile walk across Yorkshire, literally tied together. Their continued participation in such inventive fundraising activities underscores their dedication to elevating children’s opportunities and leveraging their influence for good.
The campaign aims to once again highlight the enormous impact community-driven efforts can have on youth projects. Details for contributing to this unique effort for Children in Need will be released soon, inviting public support to catalyze meaningful change for local communities.
