East Riding Launches Free Mental Health Support Programme
East Riding Expands Mental Health Support Before World Mental Health Day
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council is taking a proactive approach to mental well-being by offering a new series of workshops aimed at improving mental health and reducing isolation among adults. This initiative, known as the Wellbeing for Us programme, is a timely resource as the world prepares to observe World Mental Health Day on 10 October.
Tailored for individuals aged 18 and above, the programme is designed to foster confidence and facilitate social interactions, thereby helping participants build connections. It includes a variety of sessions on managing stress, overcoming anxiety, and enhancing self-esteem, blending face-to-face workshops with casual social gatherings for peer support.
In addition to the workshops, the programme acts as a gateway to broader support networks, guiding participants towards local community organisations and health services, including NHS referrals. Workshops and drop-in sessions are readily accessible across multiple locations including Withernsea, Hornsea, Bridlington, and Beverley. Furthermore, informal peer groups are being convened at sites like Goole and Lelley Fields Crematorium.
The council underscores the importance of these initiatives in battling the growing issue of mental health challenges exacerbated by social isolation. With more sessions planned, this comprehensive approach marks a significant step forward in community mental health efforts.
