In a significant move, the Indian government has disclosed the names of six courageous soldiers martyred during Operation Sindoor, marking the first official announcement since the operation commenced in May 2025. Among the fallen heroes are five members of the Army and one from the Indian Air Force.

The list of martyrs includes Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, Agniveer Murali Naik, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh, and Sergeant Surendra Kumar of the Indian Air Force. Their names were released alongside a comprehensive list of soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in various military operations throughout 2025.

Tyag Chakra: A Tribute to Brave Souls

The Tyag Chakra (Circle of Sacrifice) located at the National War Memorial stands as a tribute to the country’s bravehearts. This memorial features 16 circular granite walls, where the names, ranks, and units of every soldier who sacrificed their lives for the nation post-Independence are inscribed. With the recent announcement, these six heroes of Operation Sindoor will join the ranks of those eternally remembered there.

Operation Sindoor: A Retaliatory Strike

Operation Sindoor was launched in the early hours of May 7, 2025, targeting nine terror infrastructure sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This precision strike aimed to eliminate over 100 terrorists as a direct response to the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack, which tragically resulted in the loss of 26 lives.

The tri-service operation strategically targeted infrastructure linked to notorious terror organizations, including Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Following intense military engagement, India and Pakistan reached an agreement to suspend military operations on May 10, 2025, after discussions between their respective Directors General of Military Operations.

This decisive action and the subsequent honor bestowed upon the martyrs symbolize the country’s unwavering commitment to national security and remembrance of those who have stood valiantly at the frontlines.
